Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  1. How do I pay for my sessions?

We accept all major credit cards, HSA/FSA account cards, personal checks and cash. Please note, if you wish to pay with cash, we ask that you pay for the session with the exact amount, as we are not able to provide change.

  2. Do you accept insurance?

At this time, Mindful Journey is an Out-of-Network practice and does not accept insurance. We are happy to provide you with receipts and documentation to submit to your insurance carrier for reimbursement. Services may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance or employee benefit plan. Please review your coverage carefully, and consult with your insurance provider for your "out of network" emotional/behavioral health care coverage.

Please note, it is important when speaking with your insurance plan that they understand that you are inquiring about emotional/behavioral health coverage and not "medical coverage".

We encourage our clients to reach out to their insurance plan customer service support and explore the following questions to verify and understand their out-of-network emotional/behavioral health coverage:

    i. Does my health care plan offer out of network coverage for individual, couples or family therapy (depending on your needs)?

ii. How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover?

iii. What is the coverage amount per therapy session? For example, is it based on a sharing rate such as 60/40 - they pay 60%, and you pay 40%?

iv. Do I need to reach an out of network deductible first? If so, how much is my deductible? Has my deductible been met?

    v. Do I need a referral to psychotherapy from a physician in order to get reimbursed?

vi. How do I submit claims for reimbursement? Do they have an app that you can download onto your phone and does allow for scanning in your billing receipt for submission?

vii. Does my insurance require pre-approval from my primary care physician?

  3. What are your office hours?

We offer sessions generally Monday through Friday 9a-6p and Saturday mornings. Later evening appointments are as needed. For more information, please speak with the practice owner.

  4. What is your cancellation policy?

If you are not able to attend your scheduled session, we ask that you let us know at least 24 hours in advance. If it is less than the needed 24-hour notice, we will need to charge you for the full session cost.

  5. How long are sessions?

Standard sessions, including intakes, are 50 minutes. Other session times can be arranged with your therapist as needed.

  6. How long will I be in treatment?

This is a complex question to respond to but often asked by new clients. It all depends on what brought you into treatment. Some clients come in for very specific topics that are easily addressed across a few sessions to a month, while others benefit from longer term therapy. Treatment modalities used, such as EMDR, can also influence length of treatment and session duration. You and your therapist will explore what brings you in for support, discuss the focus of your therapy, work collaboratively & evaluate your progress to ensure that goals are being met.

  7. Do you offer in-person as well as Telehealth (remote video) sessions?

We offer both in-person and Telehealth video sessions. Phone-based sessions are also used under certain circumstances. All of the virtual therapy sessions are taking place via Telehealth on a HIPPA compliant platform.

  8. Is therapy confidential?

Yes, therapy is always held as confidential (except when addressing mandated reporting requirements). This supports the needed development of trust between therapist and client. As mandated reporters, we are legally required to contact the appropriate emergency services should a situation arise where a client potentially presents a danger to themselves or others, or if a minor or an elder is being harmed.

  9. What is EMDR?

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is an evidence-based therapy (meaning that there have been research studies that measurably show effectiveness). It is a psychotherapy technique that helps people heal from symptoms and emotional distress which is a result of disturbing life experiences.
